인간 중심 공학(HCE) 전공을 지원하는 학생을 제외한 모든 지원자는 아래 나열된 1번~4번 중 하나의 프롬프트에 응답해야 한다. HCE 전공에 지원하는 학생은 5번 프롬프트에만 응답해야 한다. (400단어)

1. Each year at University Convocation, our incoming class engages in reflective dialogue with the author of a common text. In her November 2019 Ted Talk, “The Danger of a Single Story,” Chimamanda Ngozi Adichi warned viewers against assigning people a “single story” through assumptions about their nationality, appearance, or background. Discuss a time when someone defined you by a single story. 4. Boston College’s founding in 1863 was in response to society’s call. That call came from an immigrant community in Boston seeking a Jesuit education to foster social mobility. Still today, the University empowers its students to use their education to address society’s greatest needs. Human-Centered Engineering at Boston College integrates technical knowledge, creativity, and a humanistic perspective to address societal challenges and opportunities. 이 에세이 주제로 내 생각을 잘 쓰고 전달한다는 것이 결코 쉽지 않음을 알 수 있다.

 

이 에세이를 쓴 학생들간의 우열이 갈릴 수 밖에 없다. 각 대학이 부가 에세이를 제시하는 이유다. 그래서 부가 에세이 쓰기를 일찍부터 할 수 밖에 없다.
