보스턴 유티버시티(BU)는 미국 명문 사립대학 가운데 하나다. 유에스 뉴스 2023년 랭킹 41위에 올라 있는 대학이다. 한국 학생들도 많이 선호하는 대학 가운데 하나다. 다만 이 대학은 미국 시민권자와 영주권자에게는 많은 재정보조/Financial aid를 주는 반면 국제학생들에게는 Need Based Grant를 주지 않는 인색한 대학이다.
그런데 이 대학은 우수한 국제학생들을 대상으로 Merit Scholarship을 준다. 즉 성적 장학금 혹은 특기 장학금이라고 할 수 있다.
이 대학이 주는 메릿 장학금은 the Trustee and Presidential Scholarships이다.
BU는 이 장학금을 이렇게 설명하고 있다.
"BU의 가장 권위 있는 장학금으로, 이는 지적, 문화적, 사회적 기회를 제공하는 독특한 캠퍼스 커뮤니티의 일부이다. 이 장학금을 신청하려는 학생은 자신의 학교에서 가장 성취도가 높고 학교와 지역사회에서 탁월한 참여를 보여주어야 한다. 이 장학금 매우 경쟁이 치열하다. 이 장학금 수혜 대상자는 미국 시민권자, 영주권자, 자격이 있는 비시민권자, 그리고 국제 학생이다"
이 장학금의 액수와 지원시기 및 준비사항은 다음과 같다.
- Annual Value: Full tuition & fees (학비 전액 지원)
- Deadline: December 1 (신청 마감일은 12월 1일)
- Number of Awards: 20 (선발 인원은 20명)
- No CSS Profile™ & FAFSA required (별도의 재정보조 서류가 필요없음)
- One essay required on the Common Application (1개 에세이 제출 의무)

To be considered for a Trustee Scholarship:
- Submit the Common Application and all required materials for admission to one of the undergraduate degree programs at BU by December 1.
- Complete the Trustee Scholarship essay on the Common Application as part of your application to BU.

Please choose from one of the two prompts below and submit one essay, in 600 words or less, as part of your application through the Common Application.
